Area 10 - January 2024 update

For the second month in a row we held our monthly meeting for December at The Crown Inn, Penn.  It was a pleasure to welcome Chris King, Rik Gill & Michelle, and John & Karen Stretch to their first pub meetings.  Chris was unable to stay long as he had a prior dinner arrangement, but he assured us that he will return!

Future events

Our monthly meeting for January will be held on the 11th at The Bird in Hand, Knowl Hill, RG10 9UP – arrive any time from 6:30pm.

We now have over 70 Members and friends booked for our Area 10 New Year Dinner being held at Gerrards Cross Golf Club on Saturday 13 January.

Aston Martin Reading (at Pangbourne) are inviting AMOC Members to two events in the next few weeks:

Firstly, on Thursday 22 February they are offering a dedicated day of test drives of the DB12.  See the flyer in the email update or contact Will Sayer for details - Will.Sayer@hrowen.co.uk

Secondly, in my last monthly email I gave details of their Spring Service Coffee Meet being held on

Saturday 23 March, from 10am to 4pm.  They are offering coffee and chat in their showrooms, plus a few complimentary vehicle health checks, plus test drives of the DB12 and the DBX707.  Contact Dara Thomas to book a health check, test drive or just to register to attend on the day - dara.thomas@hrowen.co.uk.

Rob Smith is arranging a brunch meeting at the Renegade Brewery on a Sunday morning in March, either 24 March or 31 March – details next month.

The date for Simply Aston Martin at Beaulieu has been set for Sunday 7 April.  You can visit the club website to register yourself to park with Area 10 – the parking passes will be issued later automatically – visit Beaulieu Simply Aston Martin AMOC.  You will still need to separately purchase your participant entry tickets which are discounted by £4.00 until 31 January 2024.

Rob Smith is arranging a drive-out and tours of the Whitewebbs Transport Museum and Nicholas Mee & Co Ltd.  This will take place on a Thursday, either 18 or 25 April.  We will have a guided tour and lunch at Whitewebbs before heading for Nick Mee’s for a tour and refreshments.  I will include full details and a flyer next month.

A reminder that over the weekend of 17-19 May we have three events, the Steam and Vintage Transport Festival at Fawley Hill, SupercarFest-The Runway and the Stonor Park Spring Meeting of Classics, Sports and Supercars – all details as per my last monthly email.

Roger and Jane Brill have kindly offered to host us at Peterley Manor Farm for pizzas on the evening of Wednesday 22 May – please save the date.

The AMOC Spring Concours will be held at Sandringham Estate on the weekend of 24-26 May – it will comprise a number of events including a Friday supper, Saturday Drive-out & Lunch, International Dinner, Sunday Lunch and, of course, the Concours itself.  You can find more information and register your interest for any of these events at Spring Concours Sandringham 2024 (register interest)

I am delighted to say that we have again been invited to have an evening meet at the Gerrards Cross Golf Club.  This year the date will be Wednesday 26 June from 6:30pm and, weather-permitting, we hope to display our cars around the putting green.

Lady McAlpine has invited us to attend one of her special Invitation Days at Fawley Hill Railway and Museum on Saturday 29 June.  The AMOC will be one of two car clubs invited and she will also admit a limited number of the public from her long waiting list.  In February I will ask you to register your interest with me along with a donation to Lady McAlpine’s charity.

We have been invited to join Area 22 at The Feathered Nest Inn in Nether Westcote near Burford on Wednesday 3 July.  This is right at the west extent of Area 10, and I understand that it is a great location with excellent driving roads and views from the property.  I expect to have more details next month.

One of our new Members is proposing a drive out to Ashridge House near Berkhamsted with lunch and a tour of the house and gardens – this is tentatively arranged for Wednesday 24 July and I will have more details in due course.

Steve & Helen Cory have arranged for us to return to the History on Wheels Museum at Eton Wick on Sunday 28 July.  We had an excellent visit there back in 2019 and I am sure that the owner, Tony Oliver, will give us an equally warm welcome on this occasion.

We have a meeting at Dorney Lake shortly to discuss details for our Area 10 BBQ & Tom May Special there on the evening of Thursday 8 August.  I will send out a flyer in June but, as several people were too late to join us this year, please put the date in your diary.
