Area 10 December Update

December 2023

On Sunday 29 October there was heavy rain and flooding in the vicinity of Gerrards Cross Golf Club but nevertheless over 40 members and friends welcomed Les and Wendy Goble for his talk entitled “From DB7 to Vulcan via James Bond". Les described his 15 years in the role of Performance Driving Executive during which he wrote driving guides for each of the new models and, supported by Wendy, provided training on each model for dealers, journalists and customers in various exotic locations around the world. It’s a tough life!  The golf club provided us with excellent audiovisual facilities and a delicious lunch.

At fairly short notice, Graham Maidlow suggested a return to Jenner’s Café by the River Thames in Maidenhead for brunch on Sunday 5 November.  We were lucky with the weather and had an excellent turnout of 53 Members and friends, mostly with Astons but also with a sprinkling of other interesting cars (plus Trevor’s Mercedes).  Richard and Denise brought along their 1933 Lagonda and at the other end of the age spectrum, AM Reading brought along their DB12. We also had an XK150, a GT40 and a rare Golf MkII Rallye.

For the first time in over a year we held our monthly meeting at The Crown Inn, Penn. It was good to see Chris Youell and Graham Thorn who we had not seen at a pub meet for quite a long time.  The Crown staff were very welcoming and, as some other venues are booked up on 14 December, we are returning there for our December meeting.
