Area 16 news Letter March 2017

Dear Fellow Area 16 Members.

Next Regular Club Meeting Tuesday: 14th March at The Royal Oak, Wineham. The Royal Oak, Wineham Lane, Henfield BN5 9AY. Tel: 01444 881252

Everyone welcome to join us, we will be having our annual quiz night, thanks in advance to Elaine, we look forward to an entertaining evening. Last year we had a section about Scunthorpe, I wonder if we may have a £10,000 treasure hunt this year!

Assistant Rep: We have had offers of help from two of our members, as soon as I have spoken with them and we have come up with a plan on how to move forward I will let you know.

February’s meeting saw a good turn out to a pub that we have not used before for a club evening. We have had feed back which is always good to know for future planning.

There are a few updates and changes in the planned events.

23rd April Charity Classic Car Run – see entry form attached end of page.

7th May – NEW - Horsham Town event, Celebrating all things British, traditional market.

29th – 30th July - NEW – Hot air balloon festival, Eastbourne

15th – 17th Sept - Isle of Wight – booking instructions/hotel info. Numbers required.

18th November – NEW - Curling at Fenton’s has been booked, first come basis 24 places. £20.00per head

We have a small stock of Navy polo shirts with our logo embroidered on them, sizes available are S,M, L, XL these are of good quality and are ONLY £20 Each, if you are interested in other colours or items such as shirts, fleeces, rugby shirts or caps, please contact Gary.

Area 16 planned events for 2017:

With all the events mentioned below please email Area16@amoc.org with your intentions so we can coordinate arrangements.

March 25th Prestige Paintworks, Chris Pursall has invited members to view his premises at Deanland Business Park, Golden Cross, BN27 3RP. He has several Astons at various stages of work being carried out and lots of enthusiasm for the cars. Chris is offering Bacon roll and coffee so please let us know if you would like to attend 9:30 – 11:00

Prestige Paintworks is becoming renowned for its work within the automotive restoration industry, especially for the Jaguar and Aston Martin marques. Chris is still as hands-on today with restorations as he was six years ago. His passion and duty of care will ensure that every motor is looked after from start to finish.

We have an additional invite afterwards to see Adam Powderham’s Jaguar racing car and showrooms.

April 2nd – Simply Astons at Beaulieu, if you turn up in your Aston it is £10 per adult and £5 per child to attend, this was a good event last year, take a look at the website, you can purchase your tickets on line or at the gate, see link for details https://www.beaulieu.co.uk/events/simply-aston-martin/

We will need to know if you are intending to come so that we can reserve parking for Area 16.

Anyone wishing to make the most of the day, some of us will be staying at The Master Builder’s House Hotel. http://www.hillbrookehotels.co.uk/the-master-builders/ on the Sunday night.       

We would suggest you book soon and include the dinner option, we will arrange to dine together in the evening if you are happy to do so.

April 23rd - St Georges Day Event, Westerham (Area 7) traditionally a few Area 16 members go along for a Sunday lunch, nice display of Astons, live music along with various other entertainment during the day.

April 23rd – Charity Classic Car Run, Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking to Historic Dockyard, Chatham. Entry price £45 includes car driver and passenger and entry to the museum. Entry closes on the 20th April or earlier as limited to 250 cars will be offered on first come first served basis. Sponsorship is optional. Registration is between 9 and 10.30 please see attached end of page for details of registration.

April 29th 30th - Magnificent Motors – Eastbourne, an event held on the seafront a good selection of cars, clubs and activities going on. As usual with car shows we try to get everyone in the same area with our club shelter to enable shade of cover for the picnickers. We do like a good picnic! I have booked in 10 cars on each day, first come first served, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP

April 30th or May 21st - Croquet Date to be confirmed

May 7th NEW EVENT - Horsham town event - We need 24 cars to display in the Carfax 11:30 – 15:30 the town have got HWM supporting this event so it would be great to have a good and varied display of our cars to be an attraction within the Horsham English Festival.

As well as our cars there will be a range of activities, vintage and modern vehicles on display.

May 10th to the 14th - German Tour – Now all booked, should you wish to join us you will have to book your own accommodation.

June 13th - Election Night – please make members and Gary aware if you wish to put yourself up for election.

June 25th - Tickerage Vineyard Tour followed by lunch at Blackboys Inn, where we will rendezvous and park cars before tour.

29th 30th July – Hot Air Balloon Festival on behalf of Eastbourne District General Hospital, Cars will need to be in attendance before 10am and leave after 5pm you can choose which day you want to attend. Evening performances from 5pm – 10pm (car can remain on site if you wish). Please let Gary know as soon as possible if you wish to attend, registration need to be complete by 15th June.

Sept 15th – 17th – Isle Of Wight (IOW) car shows – If you wish to join in this weekend extravaganza you will need to let us know a.s.a.p We have secured a booking at The Bourne Hall Country Hotel http://www.bournehallhotel.co.uk/index.html

I have rooms reserved until Friday March 3rd Cost for the weekend is £4 entry to show (must be prepaid) by contacting Victor on the number on the flyer attached.

October 27th We have two tables of 8 booked for Murder Mystery Evening This will be held at the Powdermill Hotel, Nr Battle, East Sussex. The price per person is £45.00 which includes a glass of Prosecco or soft drink on arrival while you meet the actors, 3-course dinner including coffee and the murder itself.  If you wish to attend and have not already put your name down please let us know a.s.a.p. The hotel are offering special rates for those attending wishing to stay overnight.

November 18thNEW EVENT - Curling at Fenton’s near Tunbridge Wells. Prompt 10am start. We have 24 places available, first come basis please let us know if you are interested. £20 per head this includes video, tuition and two hours on the ice (yes real ice) dress appropriately for great fun. We will select a pub nearer the time to visit after and have a well-earned meal for those who would like.
