Visit to Avro Vulcan XM655

Area 22 Visit to Vulcan XM655

Saturday 3 August 2024

Following our failed attempt to get “airborne” in Negus, the Boeing 747 at Cotswold Airport we have secured a “flight” in Avro Vulcan B Mk2 XM655.The youngest Vulcan in existence, and the third last produced, she was delivered to 9 squadron at RAF Cottesmore in November 1964 and transferred to the Waddington Wing in January 1968. She served with 101 and 44 squadrons and was with 50 squadron when she was put up for sale in late 1983. Following several failed attempts to restore her to flying condition, she now resides under the care of XM655 Maintenance and Preservation Society at Wellesbourne.

After “landing” we shall repair to the nearest mess room for refreshments aka a pub!
Put this date in your diary, I will take your names for inspection nearer the time.
