Area 22 - A Winter Warmer
About this event
A visit to the National Memorial Arboretum. This is a site of national remembrance at Alrewas near Lichfield in Staffordshire, about a 1.5-hour drive.
The objective is to honour the fallen, recognise service and sacrifice, and foster pride in the British Armed Forces and civilian community. Following major regeneration, it was reopened in March 2017. It features three new exhibition galleries, a restaurant, coffee shop and courtyard with garden.
We shall enjoy what is known as a Winter Warmer. This is pie and mash in the Remembrance Centre whilst learning about the Arboretum from one of the experienced volunteers.
After that we are booked on the Land Train to take us for a “weatherproof” trip around the Arboretum to see the Memorials.
