Area 10 May 2026 Update - Jeff Sears

Our season is getting well under way and we have a lot to look forward to. Firstly, though, we held our monthly meeting for April at The Bird in Hand, Knowl Hill and it was great to see 17 Astons in the car park.

The meeting featured our annual Area 10 Quiz and our AGM. For the brief AGM I reported on our accounts for the year which showed a closing balance £1640.98, down £114.62 on the year. In the uncontested elections, Liz Constance and I were unanimously re-elected by a show of hands.

The quiz was hosted by last year’s winners the Corys and Kays.  I did not take part as I was suffering from a stubborn cold but I hear that the quiz was won by Stephen & Christine Lawrence and recently-joined Members Andrew and Julia Sonden.  They were presented with the Ten Trophy, a model of Aston prototype DP215.  David Lewington realised that it was the 30
th Anniversary of the first presentation of the trophy which was produced by Richard Loveys (see also May’s AM Monthly).

On Saturday 25 April we had the first two of our three visits to the Vulcan XM655 at Wellesbourne.  I was in the morning tour and we received a warm welcome from their Visits Organiser, Steve.

We firstly witnessed the powering up of the massive aircraft’s systems and they demonstrated the activation of the control surfaces, the bomb bay doors and the navigation and landing lights.

We were then split into six groups and rotated round six 15-minute presentations covering the aircraft design, its history in service, the Falklands campaign, the defence & munitions systems, plus a tour of the cockpit with a former crew member.

The visit finished with a photoshoot of our cars in front of the aircraft.  Several Members have posted photos on our Area 10 Facebook page.

Several Area 10 Astons were on display at the Supercar Sunday at Silverstone and enjoyed free access to the race meeting.

The main event was the 3-hour British GT endurance race which featured five Astons – one GT3 and four GT4 Vantages.

Jessica Hawkins and Will Orton finished second in GT4 whilst Andrew Howard and Ross Gunn finished third in GT3 Pro-AM.

Andrew Howard will be coming to our Feast on the Farm at Peterley Manor Farm on 20 May – see below.

We have an exciting development for our “Feast on the Farm” to be held at Peterley Manor Farm on the evening of Wednesday 20 May.  We will be joined by Andrew Howard the boss of Beechdean Ice-cream and an enthusiastic Aston Martin racer.  Andrew raced a GT3 Vantage in the BritishGT 3-hour endurance race at Silverstone last weekend finishing third in GT3 Pro-AM.  On 20 May he will bring one of his championship winning cars for us to see close up, and will be happy to answer any questions we have.
