Area 10
November 2025 Update

We held our monthly meeting for October at The Spade Oak, Bourne End.  I did not attend as I had just tested positive for Covid, but I know that at least 25 Members attended.  It was good to hear that Dominic Benoist attended his first event/meeting – I hope to meet him before too long,

The annual Aston Martin meet at the Ace Café on the North Circular Road took place on the mild, dry morning of Saturday 18 October.  It was really well-attended with the parking marshal doing an excellent job of fitting everyone in (although he did assign me a very generously-sized space). Whilst I was there, I counted at least 40 Astons, many of them being Area 10 Members

I was planning to report on our Brunch at Jenner’s Café in Maidenhead but, due to half-marathon road closures, we have had to postpone it for a week.  Graham tells me that we now have 28 Astons signed up for the new date of Sunday 2 November, and AM Reading plan to bring along the new Vanquish.  Let’s hope that the weather will be kind to us.

And a reminder that tickets are still available for the AMOC Annual Dinner at Down Hotel, Essex on Saturday 1 November. I understand that you are welcome to bring along friends – see Annual Dinner 2025 at Down Hall Hotel, Essex - Events - Aston Martin Owners Club

The NEC Classic Motor Show is being held on 7 to 9 November.  Our AMOC discount code is CCCNOV5158.

In my absence, Steve and Helen Cory have kindly offered to organise and host our November meeting – it will be at The Spring Inn, Sulhamstead on Thursday 13 November from 6:30pm.  They will be coning off an area of the car park for us so you can move the cones when you arrive.

And our December meeting will be held on Thursday 11 December at The Crown Inn, Penn from 6:30pm.  As per our recent visits, they are reserving the Crown Room for our sole use and will take our food and drink orders there.

Geoff & Carole Dische have finalised arrangements for our Area 10 New Year Dinner at the Gerrards Cross Golf Club on Saturday 10 January 2025.  AMOC HQ are again kindly supporting the event and so we are keeping the pricing the same as last time.  I will be sending out the flyer shortly.

New Events

Vulcan XM655 - this event is now fully subscribed

I have arranged a visit to the Vulcan XM655 Maintenance and Preservation Society at Wellesbourne Mountford Aerodrome, Warwick CV35 9EU. We will be given a private tour of the facility and the aircraft on Saturday 25 April.

The plan will be to rendezvous nearby before heading to the airfield to arrive just before 10:00am in time for a safety briefing and a welcome by the society’s chairman.

The tour will last about 2½ hours and will comprise:

  • Systems Demo - power is applied to Avro Vulcan B.2 XM655 and various systems operated.
  • Tour of the Vulcan’s cockpit led by a former RAF Vulcan crew member.
  • Talk on the history of the Avro Vulcan throughout its time in RAF service.
  • Talk on the 1982 Falklands campaign.
  • Talk on the aircraft’s engineering, defence systems, munitions, etc.
  • Tour of the ground equipment in use.
  • Unrestricted photo opportunities throughout.
  • Tea / Coffee refreshments.
  • Vehicle group photoshoot with the Vulcan.

There is a gift shop on site.

The cost will be £15 per person and places are limited – in order to confirm sufficient demand, please register your interest with me.  I will then ask those at the top of the list to confirm their interest by making the payment of £15 to the Area 10 account.

Fawley Hill

Following our successful visits to Lady McAlpine’s Fawley Hill estate and museum for the past two years, she is again inviting up to 10 Astons to attend on one of her Invitation Days in 2026 to display in front of the museum.  They are expecting to have their steam loco in action following its overhaul.  They request a minimum donation of £15 per person.  They have allocated us Sunday10 May. Please let me know if you would like a place on this visit to this special venue.  See flyer:Area 10 FLyer for Fawley Hill 2025

Bremont Watches

Bremont have been in touch with me asking whether there are any Area 10 Members who missed out on our visit to the Bremont Wing near Henley earlier in the year and who would like to visit if another date could be arranged – please let me know.  They need at least six people for a private tour.  They no longer charge for the tours but we usually make a donation to charity.  For simplicity in arranging a date, I will probably forward your email address to Bremont.

Other News

Steve Johnson has come up with a couple of ideas for 2026 events.  Please let me know if you have any ideas for possible events that we can organise and include in our calendar for next year.

We have some Members who are new to Area 10 over the past month – I would like to welcome Simon Landers & Janine Abbott, Dave & Linda Newbury and Neil & Susan Thacker.
