Area 10 September 2025 Update

Firstly, thanks to Helen Cory for being the first to spot the typos in my first attempt at this email regarding our October meeting at The Spade Oak - now corrected below.

I am writing this after a busy few days spent at the Silverstone Festival, then at the Bucks Railway Centre’s AutoFest, and finally yesterday at the Lockton Club Trophy Day at Salon Prive at Blenheim Palace.

Report

Our first Area 10 event in August was our annual Tom May Special meeting held, once again, at the Eton College Rowing Lake near Windsor.  A late rush of payments took our total to 133 people to be catered for, arriving in 68 Astons.  This year the weather remained dry, and owners of the open cars were able to leave their hoods down.  The sunset was not as dramatic as some we have experienced but the view from the clubhouse was spectacular as always.

Two awards were presented during the evening – one for The Best Aston chosen by last year's winner Mark Gower, and one for The Aston That I Would Like To Take Home chosen on my behalf by Adam and Emma from AM Reading.

The winners were respectively Chris Youell for his 1984 V8 Vantage (pictured)
and Ricky Ubbi for his DBS Superleggera OHMSS Edition.

I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make the event so successful – a special mention for David Rollinson for being the first to volunteer for car parking duty despite having only joined the club three weeks before.

I will just mention that I have booked the venue again for next year’s event which will be held on Thursday 6 August – please save the date!

On Sunday 10th, Jo and I joined Area 1 for a very pleasant lunch at the RAC Club in Epsom.  We heard that the Prince of Wales's Championship Cup polo final was being held at Guards Polo Club near Windsor and was sponsored by Aston Martin – we dropped in on the way home and, being in an Aston, were made very welcome.  I will find out more information for next year’s event.

We had seven Astons attending the annual RAF Benson Families Day – the Chinooks kindly vacated their hangar for us and then put on an impressive flying display following on from The Red Arrows, BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and several others.

Just three days later there was Vantage Celebration Day at Gaydon where over 450 Astons converged in glorious sunshine to mark 75 years of the use of the Vantage name.  Several Area 10 Members met up for a picnic lunch on the grass overlooking the display.

Having purchased Super Earlybird tickets back in December, I attended all three days of the Silverstone Festival enjoying the AMOC hospitality in their large marquee.  The tickets were a bargain at less than £25 per person per day including infield parking.

To round off the bank holiday weekend, just four Astons took up the late offer of privileged parking at the Bucks Railway Centre’s AutoFest.  It was particularly enjoyable for us this year as our grandson experienced his first trip on a miniature railway and then travelled in first class on the steam railway.

Salon Prive at Blenheim Palace has grown since I last attended three years ago.  There was a great turnout of Astons – as well as the 100-or-so Members cars there were about 20 others on display including a tempting Valhalla.  Less practical were the helicopters and serious boats/yachts on offer, but there were a lot of other interesting merchandise to buy!  As the weather turned a bit wet in mid-afternoon, we were fortunate to be able to retire to the AMOC’s Pavilion Suite on the South Lawn.

Future events

Many of you, especially in the Feltham community, (or having attended the NEC) will have known Jean Moss.  Well, to celebrate her life, the company Petroyle Restorations are organising an Aston Martin car meet at their storage site in Todenham on Saturday 6September from 10am to 1pm. The full address of the site is: The Grain store, Todenham Road, GL56 9PH.  If you would like to attend, please let Lucie know on: accounts@petroylerestorations.co.uk

We will be holding our monthly meeting for September on Thursday 11 September at The Bird in Hand, Knowl Hill, RG10 9UP.  They are again allocating us the private dining room to the rear-left of the building and will be expecting us from 6:30pm.  If you wish to eat you can order your food when you arrive.

It has been confirmed that there will be a flypast and display by a Battle of Britain memorial Flight Spitfire at the Chearsley Classic & Vintage Fun Day on Sunday 14 September – Astons will be allocated a good parking spot, hopefully by the marquee – to register, visit ccvfd.co.uk

I understand that several Area 10 Members will be attending the International Anniversary Weekend in Austria from 26 to 28 September.  Before that, Jo and I are joining the club’s 5-day tour from Reims along with some other Area 10 Members.

For our October meeting we are returning to The Spade Oak, Bourne End, SL8 5PS, where they are reserving the Snug for us – I will see you there on 9 October from 6:30pm.

You might have noticed the Lunch and Talk event pencilled in for Sunday 12 October.  That was to have been a presentation by Jean Moss and her husband Chris Adams but understandably this is now cancelled.

The annual Aston meet at the Ace Café on the North Circular Road takes place on Saturday 18 October from 11am to 4pm.

Geoff & Carole Dische have arranged our Area 10 New Year Dinner to be held at Gerrards Cross Golf Club on Saturday 10 January 2025 – we will send out a flyer in the next month or so but meanwhile please save the date.

Other News

We have two Members who are new to Area 10 over the past month – I would like to welcome James Winnicott and Mark Gibbs.

I will be out of the country on the Austria tour for two weeks and so my next monthly email will probably be delayed or curtailed.

I have updated the calendar below to reflect all the events that I have mentioned in recent emails.  Please get in touch if you require more information or have a suggestion for additional Area 10 events.
