Our 90th. Anniversary event is over … we move into August and the Area 22 calendar gets appropriately shorter. Even so, we have several big events left for you to enjoy …
The monthly meeting will be at the Frogmill on Thursday 7 August, but you will have to wait a further two weeks for the Summer Drive for Rory 2 on Wednesday 20 August. As you know this our annual charity event in support of CALM, this year the route being organised by Rich Burgess. I know Ray has emailed you twice about this event, but it is so important I will mention it again. In 2024 Area 22 pledged to support CALM and during the year raised almost £10 000. This was almost sufficient to provide the therapy three children desperately needed for one year to enable them to “achieve lifelong movement”. In their short lives they had suffered from conditions such as childhood stroke, cerebral palsy and juvenile arthritis.
We continue to help through 2025 and hence the Summer Drive for Rory 2. Those attending will receive full details of the route which will start at the Tortworth Estate Farm Shop/Cafe at 1100hrs. Onwards into Wales, east to the Forest of Dean arriving around three hours later at the Classic Motor Hub, Ablington for afternoon tea with the children from CALM .There is no limitation on numbers and so we are hoping to see as many cars as possible to support this great local charity. Full details on how to register and pay is on the Area 22 website under Area 22 drives for CALM and Rory - Events - Aston Martin Owners Club.
In September we have the Whitewell Getaway organised by David Harrold and he is in contact with those going on this trip. A few days later we leave on the annual Area 22 Expedition which this year is to Belgium.
Later, on Sunday 19 October we are having a simple “Popup Meet” at Dunkertons Park, Cheltenham nue with good food at a reasonable price. Taproom Bar – Dunkertons Cider.
During August there are many other events to enjoy, Silverstone Festival and Salon Prive at Blenheim to mention two. For your September calendar I would highlight the Cotswold Festival of Motoring held in Bourton on the Water www.northcotswoldsrotary.org/cotswold-festival-of-motoring. This is always a good, relaxed family event.
Could I take the opportunity to remind you that if you fancy a go at running our Club, the window for nominations to be a Director closes on 8 August. Voting will take place 3 – 17 September followed by the AGM on Saturday 20 September. Details are here:
