Horsfall Race Meeting - Photo Scrapbook |
|
Glorious weather arrived just in the nick of time for the premier race meeting of the calendar, namely the St.John Horsfall at Silverstone. Even before the racing began, the track was filled with an outstanding collection of Astons for the lunchtime track parade. This year, marks the 50th Birthday of the DB Mark III, so 22 of the cars parading were from the Feltham era, mostly Marks III’s of course but also the 2 litre Spa car, a works DBR1 and DB3S. The rest of the parade was made up of cars with a 007 connection which allowed onto the track the DB5, DBS, V8 saloon and Volante and the Vanquish. We were indeed very fortunate for AM to have lent us for the day one of the 4WD special effect Vanquishes from Die Another Day. Many members were able to take a rare opportunity to photograph their cars parked next to the heavily armed Bond car. Another very impressive site was a collection of no less than 5 examples of the DB3S gathered between the UBS marquee and the club shop (which appeared to be doing a roaring trade) Not forgetting the racing, for the first time at an AMOC event, a pair of brand new V8 Vantage N24’s were competing against the more established DB4’s and V8’s. Considering that they were brand spanking new and being run ‘straight out of the box’ their performance was totally outstanding. As a ready to go club race car that is also eligible for the European FIA GT4 championship, expect to see the competitive N24 for many years to come.
