Area 20 extends a very warm welcome to all Members both local and distant, who might be visiting the beautiful counties of Devon and Cornwall. If you are planning a trip to the South West in 2012 have a look at what we have planned and we would be delighted if you could join us at one of our meetings. All types of Astons are welcomed at our events.
We hold monthly meetings throughout the year which we try to move around the Area to give as many people as possible the chance to join in the fun. The calendar for 2012 is now complete and we are pleased with the varied plan of events we have lined up. If you would like more information on what is planned please see our Diary page showing forthcoming events and also take time to look at the ‘Reports and Photos' page which we think gives a great feel for the types of events we hold. If you would like to be kept informed of what we have planned please let us have your email information and we will add you to our distribution list.
Most meetings involve a lunch combined with something else (e.g. archery, garden tours, coastal drive, clay pigeon shooting). They are well attended (we usually have 25+ members in attendance) and whilst conversation naturally gravitates towards our cars it is never the sole subject.
Having undertaken two very successful foreign tours in 2010 and 2011, which were exceptional, we are having a year off this year but will doubtless be back on the road again in 2013. As soon as we have an idea of what we will be doing we will share it with you.
A bit about our Area Reps and Webmaster:
Richard Pinkett , Area Rep (Cornwall)
Richard lives in the ancient coastal fishing village of Polperro with Hellen his wife. They moved to Cornwall in 2005 when Richard sold his business and retired. Having a short amateur career in motor racing in the 1970's his passion has always been with motor cars hence his ownership of a DB6 and now of late a DB9.
His other hobby is hill climbing in his vintage 1937 MG TA which he trailers around the country just for fun as he is still waiting to earn his laurels. His son-in-law James who in an officer in the Flight Air-arm is a keen Classic Mini enthusiast owning eleven at last count in various states of disrepair . His daughter Natasha is a Physiotherapist working for the Navy at Culdrose Air-base Helston where they live nearby with their two young children. Richard's son Cristian works in IT and lives in Guildford Surrey and so far is still a bachelor but keen to take over his father's car passion.
Ian Postles , Area Rep (Devon)
Ian lives in the Exe Valley with his wife Maureen and their two Labradors (Gabby and Rosie). He is retired and has always been an avid car fan achieving his life long ambition of owning an Aston some 4 years ago. He currently drives a DB9 Volante and the Aston stable has now grown to 12 cars, unfortunately 11 of them are scalextric models!
Tim Hipwell , Area Webmaster
Tim has been a "petrolhead" all of his life - probably inherited from his grandfather who had a number of garage and coach businesses. Tim has had a number of classic cars over the last 40 years and like Richard still owns MGs which keep the Aston company. Recently retired, Tim is hoping to spend even more time keeping his concours winning DB7 Vantage Volante up to scratch, assuming of course that his wife, Georgie, doesn't have other ideas.
