Chris and Ant Scragg won the fourth round of the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain at Brands Hatch on Saturday.
The father and son partnership took pole in the morning with Ant Scragg posting a time of 50.368 sec around the Indy circuit, just 0.195 sec ahead of James Appleby, with Bernard Santal in third a further 0.556 sec back.
Chris Scragg led away from pole with James Appleby close behind. James Appleby passed on lap 3 and then set off to build as much of a lead as he could.
Chris Scragg pitted as soon as the 15 minute pitstop window opened and handed over to Ant Scragg after a clean stop. Meanwhile James Appleby stayed out and was using all of the circuit and sometimes more, which was to get the attention of the clerk of the course. James was shown the black & white warning flag and was judged to have transgressed too many times by using the run off area at the bottom of Paddock hill and was ultimately black flagged by the clerk.
Away from the front, Jonathan Hartop, driving solo in the absence of his Italian teammate, had found a way passed the Steven Byrne car and was setting some good times in his chase of the leaders. With the Scragg car having made an early stop and the Appleby car waylaid by the clerk of the course, Jonathan Hartop found himself in the lead but knew that he still had to make his stop, as did the Applebys.
When James Appleby rejoined the race after the black flag, he set off after Hartop and hunted him down, regaining the lead with a brave move at Paddock. However, despite leaving their pitstop right to the end of the 15 min window, the Applebys knew it was virtually impossible for them to keep Ant Scragg at bay.
Hartop and James Appleby pitted at the same time and rejoined with David Appleby narrowly in the lead. Jonathan Hartop was driving well and he closed the gap on David Appleby and took second place with just a handful of laps to go. However, Ant Scragg reeled off the last few laps to win comfortably by over a lap from Hartop who had stretched the gap to the Applebys to over 9 sec at the flag.
