Competitions Update March 2010
I know there has been discussion about Aston Martin Owners Club Competitions. The Committee of Management and the new Competitions Sub-Committee is committed to running six race meetings in 2010 and two sprint meetings. In addition we have been invited and accepted to race at Castle Combe and to five additional sprint or hill climb meetings. We have a full competitions programme for 2010.
Angus Dent, the Club's Treasurer and some time racer, has taken over the Chair of Competitions and is ably supported by a new committee. There is space to strengthen this Committee further, so if you wish to get involved please get in touch. The Competitions Sub-committee has changed to ensure that it responds to the market place in which our competitive events operate. It is working and has already met twice this year to organize forthcoming competitive events.
We will run our race and sprint meetings ourselves, we are not sub-contracting the running of AMOC Competitions to a third party. Competitions will be managed and administered from Club HQ to ensure we have control over costs, negotiations with the circuits and central communications with the drivers and other Clubs who choose to come racing with us.
Our Competitions Manager, John Hutchison, is now a permanent member of staff. Our meetings will provide racing for the complete range of Aston Martins along with the opportunity for our loyal friends and supporters from other Clubs such as Ferrari, Jaguar, Bentley, Austin Healey, Sunbeam, MG and Lagonda.
In addition we are pleased to say that Jim Keenan and his team of Clerks will continue to Clerk for us at all of our race meetings. Michael Cartwright, our Chief Marshall for the last ten years, has stepped back from this position for 2010, but we very much hope he'll take up the reins again later in the year ready for 2011. Michael is helping us with regulations, MSA paper work etc. and will be Clerking at our two speed events. Hopefully he'll also Steward at some of our race meetings.
Following discussions, Aston Martin Racing have committed to support AMOC Competitions this year by bringing the AMR GT4 Challenge Cup to 5 of our scheduled 6 race meetings.
As far as we are aware, this is the first time in the history of the Club and that of Aston Martin that we have participated in such a venture together resulting in a race series with our Club. This is excellent news for the Club, the owner/drivers, Aston enthusiasts, spectators and our friends from other Car Clubs.
As time progresses hopefully more N24 and GT4 cars from the UK and Europe will be attracted to participate in our race meetings. We have the organisational ability and means to provide racing for the complete range of Aston Martin racing cars from Pre-war to GT4 including those from many other marques who wish to participate with us.
All it needs now is for all Aston Martin drivers to commit to supporting the Club, Competitions in particular and to come and race with us. We have an exciting racing season organised for 2010 so let's go racing and enjoy ourselves!
Our first race meeting of the year is a Snetterton on 5th April, Easter Monday, entry forms have been sent to registered drivers and are available on the web site and / or from Club HQ. This meeting will have an endurance theme with longer races. Please come and support us either as a driver or spectator.
Listed below are the AMOC organised dates for 2010 along with the provisional overall race details. Up to date information on Competitions is posted regularly on the web site but if anyone has any doubts or concerns then contact HQ and speak to John Hutchison or alternatively Johnny Dallow.
