Bloxham DB7s (1994-2003)
|
The unveiling of the DB7 at the 1993 Geneva Salon was one of the most significant events in Aston Martin history. Here was a modern supercar that the company could build in relative quantity, initially about 600 per year. Often described as the most beautiful car ever, the Scottish designer Ian Callum's first Aston Martin was absolutely right. Even ten years later, it still looks modern and every inch a classic Aston Martin.
The construction of the DB7 was a significant departure from previous AM practice as the body structure is a steel semi-monocoque with some composite panels such as the nose and bonnet. The Jaguar derived and TWR developed 3239cc six cylinder power plant is augmented with an Eaton supercharger, sufficient to produce 335bhp. This provides the DB7 with a claimed 161 mph performance and acceleration to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. Production of the £80,000 six cylinder car continued until 1999 with about 1600 examples having been produced at which time it was replaced with the DB7 V12 Vantage.
