Following the Second World War, the company realised it needed far more capital to develop cars for the post-war market and was, with some reluctance, put up for sale. Thankfully in 1947, Aston Martin was purchased by the wealthy Yorkshire industrialist, David Brown who also purchased the ailing Lagonda company. After merging the two concerns in a single main factory at Hanworth Park in Feltham, the 2 litre sports (DB1) was developed into the DB2, a car which evolved over 9 years into the DB Mark III.
