To celebrate the 75th anniversary of its formation, the AMOC is pleased to announce a Club visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. This is a repeat of the highly successful event which took place 15 years ago in recognition of the Club’s Diamond Anniversary, where we gathered over 100 cars an seated 250 people to lunch. Much has happened at the dockyard over the past 15 years and the increased number of attractions will provide a full and enjoyable experience. Pre-assigned parking slots will be provided.
The day will be packed with opportunities to enjoy the many special attractions within the R.N. Dockyard. Light refreshments will be available on arrival and luncheon for up to 250 members will be followed by an after dinner talk by a well known motoring personality. A pay bar will be staffed during luncheon. Cream teas will be served in the late afternoon.
Dockyard attractions include: Tours of HMS Victory, Nelsons Flagship, HMS Warrior, the first “Iron Clad” warship which was virtually invincible in its time, and the Mary Rose Museum with many interesting artefacts recovered from the wreck of King Henry VIII’s flagship. The exhibition hall will be staffed by period clad actors to add to the atmosphere and assist visitors. Ship borne tours of the vessels currently moored at the docks and various items of interest will be provided in boats with a carrying capacity of 200 people and at least one of these tours will be dedicated to AMOC members. Finally, the “R.N. Action Stations” exhibition will provide members with the opportunity to experience the feeling of naval warfare in realistic surroundings, and even to try the helicopter flight simulator.
